Over the past week or so the colors have really come through on the leaves around here in central Virginia. Last year we did not get enough rain so our leaves just turned brown and fell off the trees. Talk about great inspiration.

This year is different though, with Irene and all the other rain we had back in September, the leaves have turned out gorgeous. I am training for my fifth half marathon and almost every day I see so many pretty colors. I have also taken to snatching up leaves that I see laying on the ground that are in perfect condition and have beautiful colors. I’ve always learned from observation, and I’ve really noticed some things about how the colors change in the leaves. I can’t wait to try out some things on my pottery.

Here are some pictures I took on Saturday before a wedding.

My friend Rachel and I.

I’m going to be very sad in a few weeks when all these leaves are off the trees. Being outside is so fun right now. I guess I will have to make some stick bowls or something since I won’t have much inspiration through the winter!

Busy Bee

I’ve been working my tail off since September, building inventory, making small improvements to my work, designing new leaves and re-opening my Etsy shop. Since it is currently fall, I am going to continue working mainly with the leaves since I am beginning to be surrounded by inspiration, but I have some great ideas for the holidays and for the spring. Here is a peek at what I have been working on.

Maple Leaf Bowl

Another small leaf bowl. Not sure what exact “type of leaf this is, but I really like it.

Etsy

Back in 2007 I opened my Etsy shop. At the time I was making small paintings and jewelry. A few months later my life took a drastic change, so I closed my shop. I got out of making jewelry and the other things I had been making and began to very slowly make my pottery. Now that I feel more confidant about my work, I am ready to put it out there again. I have reopened my Etsy shop and have begun the process of restocking it! I have had a lot of fun with it so far, and I hope that it really becomes something big for me. Please visit and let me know what you think!

Gallery

While looking around online today I decided that my blog needs to get cleaned up. So I made a gallery with my best images showcasing my favorites. I will be working on going through and deleting old posts and archiving my work in the gallery.

New items will be posted either the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Came up with some new ideas and I am really excited to see how they turn out!

Welcome Fall!

Technically, it’s still summer, but today really felt like Fall, and I am so happy that fall is on it’s way back! I am also excited to show my new leaf bowls. This is the maple leaf inspired bowl. I love how the glazes turned out. This is a medium sized bowl. I have a larger one that will be finished sometime next week.

I also have my hickory leaf inspired bowl in an oval shape.

I also have some other fun things in the works so check back soon for another update!

Lily Bowl

This bowl was a custom order. I enjoy making different flowers, but the leaves are my favorite right now. If you have an idea for a flower bowl, let me know and I will see what I can come up with!

mini!

New purple mini! So cute!

Ivy leaves

Not sure if this is an ivy leaf, but that’s what I am calling it! I love the shape of these leaves and hope to make a few more bowls soon with different color combinations. Have an idea? Let me know! $25
